Why To Shoot Film

  1. The pictures feel real
  2. There is depth in the picture
  3. True colors
  4. The skin tones are real
  5. There is no excessive editing as there is today that makes a picture into something that is not, it is no longer photography – it is graphics. The pictures are real
  6. 3D POP – The “3D” images have depth in the them as if you can into the picture. The pictures are not flat as in digital
  7. A digital image is actually mosaic of multicolored pixels after computerized processing. A picture taken on film is represented by billions of chemical particles that hold a picture – is there any more special than that? The light is absorbed by living material and is developed on photo paper
  8. Suddenly every picture has a meaning – the moment you take a picture, suddenly you stand differently, think how to shoot it, each picture has meaning and looks great
  9. Shooting 36 pictures of Roll Film – they all come out amazing. They will all be printed and will be on your desk/wall/album because they are all special.
  10. How many of the thousands of pictures you take on your cell phone are developed and saved in photo album? Have you ever tried to develop a quality picture that you took on a cell phone? At a magnification that is more than standard, you’ll see that it’s just not good enough.
  11. Look at your albums again from childhood, don’t the pictures look great? Go back to the digital photos you have taken in recent years and ask yourself what looks right and beautiful to you.
  12. Film Photography has already reached perfection, the most famous and beautiful pictures were shot on film.
  13. Dynamic range is greater than digital (HDR). In a single film, there is more dynamic range than 3/4/5 digital images taken in different exposures in a controlled environment and digitally manipulated to bring them together, and even then – it looks fake, it’s just not a real photo.
  14. In digital format, you click and shoot a lot and do not stop for a second to think about what you want to shoot how and why. In the film you stop and choose the most beautiful angle to catch the moment, suddenly the world is so beautiful.
  15. The negatives are the hard-drive-memory. No need to upload to the cloud, disk or hard drive. The pictures are saved in the negative film which last for years alongside the developed images and the scans on the computer.
  16. It’s cheap. A simple film camera can cost 5-150$. Film negatives are your memory cards and you do not need to upgrade every few years the camera, memory cards, computer, editing software, the cloud backup, the digital albums that no one looks at and the other ones that are replaced every few years/ All you need is a camera and a film.
  17. Waiting for pictures. After you shot a roll film and until you gave it to the lab to develop and received the pictures – time passes. Suddenly the day comes when the pictures come and every picture is a surprise and a gift of the moment you have caught. It’s Magic.
  18. The artistic sense works overtime.
  19. Film Photography is so much fun.
  20. learning. As a film photographer , no matter what your age is and  your level of photography knowledge – you are constantly learning to shoot better photos and understand better how to “catch light” at the right time.
  21. patience. You develop patience in order capture special moments from life in each frame of light.

The camera is built simply and there is not much that can go wrong with it.

Inside the camera is Kodak Professional Tri-X 400 Black and White Negative film, which I love so much. The film has contrast in the right amount, nice absorption of light and shadows, with unique softness and no noise noticable.
